Getting a grip

It's winter

I'm getting a grip, because the roads are slippery and my good workmate broke her arm the other day, falling on the ice  just outside her house! 

I have no time for that. I bought these to keep me on my feet. 

But I think it's unfair.  These 3 inches of snow came down in a hurry this afternoon, but my boss never told us to go home, the roads were full of people, cars and busses! The kids stayed in school, shops were open and everything went on as normal! Whats up with that! When 3 inches of snow came down in NY the other day, everything stopped! 

Cold feet, warm heart/soup

We are freezing here!

Trying not to complain, but -10 and below for 4 months?

I think my husband will get cold feet

if he puts his feet in these frozen things!

Soup is the answer

while we wait for the milder weather

"Potatosoup" is on the menue

Notice the vegetables have about the same color?

(except for the sweet potatoe)

Thats how you sneak in vegetables
to the ones who squeal if they find a piece of onion in a soup

Snowy blue morning at the cabin

It's a while since I've been to the cabin

This weekend we went there,

with our two teenagers.

It's not to bad that they still enjoy a weekend at the cabin

with their mum and dad.

Gandma and granddad came on Saturday

and stayed until Sunday

It was crowdy but peaceful

and everyone was in a good mood

The snow was falling quietly

and covered our tracks
On Sunday we returned home
rested, happy, scruffy and with a pile of laundry
Just as we are supposed to do, after a
Weekend at our cabin: Goro

It's dark, it's cold, it's winter!

Advent is here again

The color of advent is purple

Every night i light several candles

Outside it is freezing, windy and snowing.

See all the hay under the snow?

It is put there to prevent the ground to freeze solid.

Someone is coming to dig a hole,

to prepare for a carport.

Luckily we're not digging it ourselves!

Pile up the firewood

I'm cold to my bones!

Our fire and wind in the chimney sounds like an engine
And the warmth is so good!
Still baking and this time it's cookies
with cinnamon, cardamom and cloves
almonds and dark chocolate

It is Advent after all

Soon I hope

I'm longing for spring!

I want my cherry tree to blossom!

But for a while more

we'll have to deal with tons of snow

Shoveling snow, what a wonderful activity

(she said, pep-talking to herself)

The problem is where to put all this snow!

Once more I've found our car hidden in the snow!

I really like that we have four different seasons in Norway.

I appreciate all four of them!

I love winter and snow, and I love spring!

Hibernation

We are still in hibernation

But unlike the bears
we have entertainment And good food!

so we're not doing so bad after all!

Who would have thought

You know when people are tone deaf?

And they wouldn't know a tone if it bit them in the ear..

Well, I would say I'm sport deaf (or blind?)

Or maybe it's all greek to me!

But these days I am actually enjoying watching a bit of sport!

I find myself sitting in front of the telly, biting my fingernails

and cheering for our skiing talents.

Circular food is essential

for the circles in the olympic symbol

And hearts, I guess for Love

At the moment I'm watching biathlon

and a young girl from Norway just won a gold medal!

Footprints in the snow

Dinkie is keeping an eye on things

She is working on her tan

relaxing on a blanket in the winter sun

Frigidity

It's cold

Our water pipes are still intact
The car is still starting in the morning
we wear layers of clothes
our cheeks are frost bitten
It's a magic frosty mist over the fjord
the ferry is disappearing mysteriously
Even salty water will freeze eventually
Our surroundings are beautiful!

We're enjoying a crispy cold winter!

Frost and frosting

Its cold!

King Winter has arrived,

and this is the frosty view from my bathroom

I got these silicone baking cups

from my best friend Monica in Denmark:

I had to try them out!

Must not forget to do the pots

While the muffins are cooling

Suddenly muffins became cupcakes

with fluffy frosting!

Snow and ice cream

I can't believe the amount of snow we have recieved today.

I've been shoveling endlessly,

and each time my work is invisible after a while

All this snow gave me an idea: Why not make it useful!
(I admit being kind of a copycat)
A bucket full of snow, plenty of seasalt
Sugar and eggyolks, whipped cream and a bit of vanilla

And voila, an icecream "machine"


Plain or with bluberries
Oh heavenly paradise!

Winter wonder

King Winter left us lots and lots of snow at the cabin

We were shoveling for hours, while attending to the fire inside

to make it warm and cosy when we finally came in

The snow covered everything, even the sounds were muffled.
There were hardly any cars driving past,
only an occational tractor trying to keep the road open

This massive twin tree is hopefully going down this year!

It might not look it, but it is very tall!

We're back home again, and I don't seem to get warm!
