The young ones

Since I first startet this blog, my kids has grown an developed from young kids to young grown ups. My lovely Pink Princesse was 14 years old and my handsome Little Chef was 11 when I started.
My blog was never mainly about them, but they was part of it, and will still be.

Now, Pink Princesse is 21 years old, she is currently working in a kindergarden. Her goal is to be a qualifyed teacher for young children, she has found her path, and loving it. The respect and warmth in her voice when se talks about these little people with all their life ahead of them is wonderful!
She is planning to move in together with her boyfriend, they are so happy and ecxited, all the little tihings one needs when starting your own home for the first time, I still remember some of the stuff I had the first time I moved away from my parents. (When I think of it, I still use a few of them) And then there is all the other practical stuff, what about bills, how much to spend on food, (she: mum, how do I change a lightbulb, I suddenly realize I've never done it! Me: hello, you're moving in with an electrician!!) oh how exciting times, she is so ready, and even though it will be strange for us not to have her around all the time, it's our job to blow wind in her sails!

Little Chef is far from little anymore! (194 cm tall) He is 18 years old, has got his drivinglicence half a year ago, and got a car about five minutes after the test was passed. He drives all the time, all over the place, and feels free as a bird! He is a very social person, loves to be with his friends!
He is working in a old peoples institution, with elderly people with dementia. He loves his job, he has a big heart for geriatric health care, this is his path. The first time he told me about what he wanted to do, I was so surprized, but delighted and proud! He is training to be a qualifyed health carer, and hopefully one day a nurse.

Yorkshire Lad is still my English husband (you never know about these things these days) we enjoy life and pat eachothers shoulders when we see how well our kids are doing, and how lovely people they are! We have much more time on our hands now, no more homework to cry over, no big worries about teenagetrouble. Little Chef complained the other day about how slow and inactive we were, sitting in the sofa one day, watching a film, and I told him, I deserve to relax now, and to find out what I want to do with my time, after having used all my time for the past 20 years to take care of my family. I'll ask him how he feels after bringing up his kids, in another 25 years or so. (If I still can remember) They still need their mommy, thank heavens, and I will always be there for them.

Krakilette was and is "my place" with all my random things and thoughts, food, family, and other stuff, and so it still will be.
And because I do not like to post without a photo, and I haven't asked the others permition to post a photo of them, here's one of me:

This is me, on my third birthday!

The calendar project

My daughter Pink Princesse goes to school
far up north if Norway.
In a couple of days, the sun will disapper for quite a while
She is wondering how she will cope with it!
Where we live, further south, the days are short in the winter
but the sun never disappear completely so it will be her first time!

To cheer her up
I'm preparing a Christmas calendar
for the days in December until she comes home for her Christmas holiday!
One little present for each day.
A little break after the wrapping
Burger and chips, Little Chefs favourite!
He wants a calendar too!

I'll send them off, one package at a time
You can't beat getting mail!
That'll put a smile on her face
and make her feel special
my sweet girl!

Growing up

Little Chef, not so little anymore!
15 years old
We went to the cabin for his birthday
The menue he chose was ham, gratinated cheesy potatoes, veggies and gravy
We have to keep it simple at the cabin,
not the most fancy presentation, but the young man was pleased!
For dessert
Birthday cake!Ok, Dinkie is little
but these lads are getting so tall!
These are the legs of Little Chefs friends
They are taller than 190 cm both of them!

Little Chef's Confirmation

If you remember 3 years ago
This Saturday it was Little Chef's turn
He wore a handsome suit, and was of course
the most beautiful young man of the ceremony!
Like last time, we had his English Grandparents and his Aunt Marie
coming over from England, and had a great time with them!
We had lovely food
and of course
Flags are important in a Norwegian celebration
Spot the reflection in the cheesecake!
Pavlova
These are a few of the lovely cakes we had
Like last time,
we have eaten cake every day since,
filled boxes in the freezer and are now
longing for a green apple!

Water and eggs at the cabin

Pink Princesse has been creative at the cabin

She's preparing for Easter

She has painted empty eggshells

in watercolors Outside, spring has made the ground pretty with the earliest flowers we get in Norway The ice is melting in the little lake and water is overflowing the dam Little Chef is helping!
Pollen is also a part of spring

I've made my precautions:

Eyedrops, nosespray and allergy medicine

therefore I can sit outside in the sun

enjoying a

Good book (notice the reading glasses, I'm getting old....)

A cold beer, lovely!

(Notice the T-shirt, I'm not that old after all..)

Cheers!

The big 14

Little Chef once was his mum's little sweet boy
He still is after 14 years
even though he soon can carry his mum!
Yesterday he celebrated his 14th birthday
His aunt brought what he had asked her to do
Oreo cake!
The day was warm and lovely
and we had a garden party with the family
Tonight there is a bunch of lanky boys and girls
all of them around the same age
laughing, talking
and consuming pizza.
Since there is one vegetarian and one with coeliac
There was one pizza with everything
one without meat
And one without gluten
And for Pink Princesse and mum,
who wasn't invited
there was Wok
Birthdays are fun, love and food!

Scary Fireworks Fun

Little Chef loves Fireworks!
New Year's eve has passed
and he has fired off the rest of his fireworks
to all the dogs, mums and cats relief!
But then:
He's learnt some new tricks
The guy says: "don't try this at home"
Yeah right!!
Why bother learning something you can't use!
His uncle took the photos
and was ready to push him into the snow
in case of imergency
And Mum saw the photos after the show,
when everything had worked out well!
Sometimes it's better that way!

Teens and mommies

I'm officially mother of two teenagers
as Little Chef turns 13 today.
Pink Princesse has been a teenager for som time now
And she has her dignity to think of
(or so she claims)
But the Little Chef still has fun with his mommy:

Sweet buns from Little Chef's bakery

It was a cold and windy afternoon
We needed something sweet
A smooth and sweet dough
Made in to flat buns

Lightly whipped egg to make them a bit shiny

After they have rested and rose
We make a hole in the middle
to make room for some thick custard
12 minutes 200 C
Let the buns cool down
Then make icing mixing icingsugar and water

While wet and sticky, dip in grated coconut

Then just sit back and enjoy!

These buns are called "Skolebrød"
which translated means school bread or school buns.
I've never found out why,
because we were never allowed to eat or bring anything sweet
when I went to school and it is still like that now.
When my daughter was little she used to call them "sticky bun"
and she ate them from the top,
eating the yellow part first and made her way through
until the bun became a ring.
Hence the stickyness.
