Autumn joy

In September my sister and I went on a fabulous trip to Venice. We stayed there for four days and there was no sign of autumn anywhere! It was the most wonderful holiday I've ever had (since the one in Greece where I met my dear Yorkshire lad in 1989)!

What a wonderful place, no cars, no bicycles, just walking people, boats, hundreds of bridges, and no stress. Lots of  people go on a daytrip to Venice, travelling past it, going on a cruise etc. but I will recommend to stay there for a few days, then you will get to know it a bit better, you will have time to willingly get lost, and discover wonderful quiet charming places, away from all the tourists.

Back in Norway autumn has definitely arrived, it's raining, and clear crisp days, bright colors and dark evenings. 

It's time for comfort food:

Our lovely neighbour came by, bringing an applecake, (not on the photo, because it was irresistable and disappeared scaringly fast) and 4 pairs of socks with a typical Norwegian pattern that she had knitted herself! One pair each, lucky us! 

Pie or a quiche if you want

I've not made a pie for a long time

or is it a quiche?

I made the crust, and prebaked it

I had no beans or peas to fill the foil that was keeping the dough down while prebaking it

So I used rice.

It did the trick, and smelled good too!

I filled it with

onions, leek, and ham

an egg stand made of eggs and cottage cheese

topped with cherry tomatoes a bit of feta chese and olives

Cottage cheese is very suitable for a pie like this!The photo isn't able to show you

how tasty, juicy and good this pie was!I served it with a mixed salad,

and we ate far far to much!

The Eggy feeling

The Easter Bunny has been visiting
Hidden eggs here and there

Hidden and found by eager searchers

Even Dinkie found one!
We haven't eaten any sweets in a long looong time

We have a sweet stop going on, which goes on until 16th of june

But the easter egg is given as a exception to the deal

So obviously everyone was very excited!

in watercolors Outside, spring has made the ground pretty with the earliest flowers we get in Norway The ice is melting in the little lake and water is overflowing the dam Little Chef is helping!

Pollen is also a part of spring

I've made my precautions:

Eyedrops, nosespray and allergy medicine

therefore I can sit outside in the sun

Good book (notice the reading glasses, I'm getting old....)

A cold beer, lovely!

She didn't brag much about it!

Applecake when we came home

with apples from the garden.

That more or less sums my lovely weekend up!

Life at the Cabin

Even if there is electricity at the cabin

it's always nice to light candles.

this is our new addition

And old kerosene lamp!

It lights the room up very cosily

and gives warmth too

At night: lovely cold white wine

And some prawns, delicious!

This is how I make toast at the cabin, in the oven

under the grill.

Highly more effective than the toaster we used to have!

And in this little kettle

I boil our eggs for breakfast!

Not hungry?

Our neighbour is kind to the birds

She puts yummy seeds of all kinds out for them to eat.

Our cat loves to watch them eat,

and probably fantasize about eating them

(but she will never get to them

cause she can't shut up when she sees a befethered creature)

I thought I'd be kind to birds too

and offer a bit of entertainment to the cat.

I tied a string around some buns and put them up in a tree

outside her window.

But do you think those spoilt birds touched the buns??

Not even the seagulls who eats scraps and rubbish!!

What? Why??

Hamburger

Instead of the cheese we usually use

I put feta cheese on mine and stuck it in the oven a bit.

Oh yummy delight!

Nobody in my family like tuna

so I rarely use it

But today I made myself a salad for lunch

Tuna, spring onions, celery, lettuce and egg

Plain and lovely

I'll make it again some day

Love and nibbles

This is love

crossing the borders of color, size and species.

Its a match and true love!
Blåmann's head is slightly balding,
after having been sucked on for years.
We're talking about a long term relationship here!

Here's a tree full for you

Our little town's speciality: wild growing misteltoe

You won't find that many other places in the world!

The first of January is one of the official flagging days in Norway.

If you have a tall flag pole in your garden, you should put the flag up on certain days.

The flag has to be put up and taken down at certain times of the day.

These things are serious matters you know!

If you can't be bothered

then you must have a pennant instead and just leave it up all the time.

Most inhabitants of this building is elderly people

As you can see they look upon flagging seriously

even though they don't have a pole or a garden.

If it's cold enough

even salt water will freeze

But it'll take much colder weather for the fjord to freeze over.

It's not "GOD JUL" anymore

but it's time for a fresh start

and a lovely warm "smiling egg"

thats what we call it when the white is firm

and the yolk is runny
